Having an ice-cold beer and not having a bottle opener is a nasty puzzle, especially in the summer. It turns out that a bottle opener can be not just a piece of tin with a wooden handle, but a whole work of art and even a functional device!

Let's dive into history a bit.

Bottled beer began in England in the mid-17th century. Moreover, they used an ordinary cork stopper for this, pulling it with a rope or wire to the neck, as for champagne. Beer retained its properties. The only negative is that it was difficult and inconvenient to open the bottle.

In the 80s of the 19th century, soda and beer became very popular. People buying drinks on tap wanted to be able to purchase already packaged soda. However, existing cork options did not permanently seal the bottle securely. Then, in 1890, the American William Painter decided not to insert a cork inside the bottle but, on the contrary, to wrap the top of the neck with a metal disk with curved teeth in the shape of a crown. A thin cork pad on the inside of the cork kept the drink from coming into contact with the metal to avoid chemical reactions. The invention was called the Bottle Sealing device.

The chip of the cork was that it was cheap and disposable. On February 2, 1892, Painter received a patent for it.

Two years later, on February 6, 1894, he patented the Capped bottle opener.
