Gifts… What do they mean? Why do we give gifts?     

To bring joy to others and ... to myself personally.

The role of a gift in the modern world is special. Not fitting into the framework of rational economic behavior based on the principle of mutual benefit, it has become for us a symbol of selfless love or simply friendly disposition.

Soul of a gift

In addition to the pragmatic and emotional gift has another function - magical. In the heyday of psychoanalysis, Marcel Mauss made the most important discovery: according to the ideas of our ancestors, gifts have a soul. So, the New Zealand Maori believe that every gift carries "mana" - a piece of the soul of the giver. For all their archaism, these ideas have not lost their power over us to this day. Any, even an insignificant present, with an invisible thread, connects us with the one to whom we give it.

Gifts are different. 

It is also important in them how exactly we present them: how confident we feel at the same time, what measure of imagination and taste we put into the ritual itself.

Gift is a delicate matter.

Not a single person remains indifferent when receiving a gift. Even if you don't like receiving gifts, you probably love giving them.

You can give pleasure to relatives, friends, loved ones, arrange a small holiday by giving them a small bouquet of flowers, a funny toy, a useful set, and so on.

From early childhood, a person must be educated in the desire to give gifts. The child must learn not only to receive, but also to give, he must learn to choose and give.

The gift shows the taste, imagination, ingenuity, tact of the giver and, most importantly, his attention to another person.

The gift often has a purely symbolic meaning. This is a kind of expression of feelings. A small token of attention, a modest gift made with love, can be of great value to the one to whom it is presented.

All gifts, except flowers, should be presented in a packaged form, immediately after congratulations.

You also need to be tactful when accepting a gift.

It is impolite to put a gift aside without looking at it.

A gift is always a sign of attention, so it is important not only to thank for it, but also to emphasize that you wanted this particular thing (book, perfume, dress, record, etc.), that you really like this thing.

If the gift is made by hand, then the person should be thanked doubly.

When they give sweets, fruits, cigarettes, it is customary to treat everyone present with them.

If you did not like the gift, you should not express your displeasure aloud, you still need to warmly thank the person who made the gift.

If the gift was sent by mail or passed through a third party, you must thank the giver by sending him a short letter, postcard or phone call. This must be done within two to three days after receiving the gift.

You can give any gifts to family members, from flowers to cars.

Household and daily use items are a gift that is always accepted with joy.

Business gifts are made with the aim of establishing contact, creating an atmosphere of goodwill. They should not be regarded as bribery, but as one of the ways to show your good attitude. 

A business gift should be inexpensive. Even if you work for a successful company, expensive gifts should not be given to guests or colleagues. Otherwise, with your gift, you will put them in an awkward position.

The choice of a gift must be taken seriously. The main thing is to take into account the tastes and interests of the person to whom the gift is intended. It should correspond to his occupation and specifics of work. 

Beautiful gift wrapping is an important detail, as it creates the first impression of the gift.
